Hiccup is the shared practice of Hannah Yukiko Pierce [New York] and Isobel Chiang [Berlin]. We offer services in graphic design, brand strategy, and print consulting. We emphasize long-term partnerships with clients working across arts and culture.
Our studio collaborates with a network of editors, printers, suppliers, fabricators, and craftspeople across the U.S., Europe, and South Korea.
We also maintain an independent teaching practice around themes of book making, experimental publishing, and print production. We’ve lectured previously at Yale School of Art, Princeton University, Parsons, Pratt Institute, and AIGA NY, among others.
In parallel to our studio practice, we run Small Editions, an artists’ book publishing house. Our work aims to center the book as a form of art, rather than a vehicle for art. Previous books have been collected by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, Brooklyn Museum, the Whitney Museum, and Rijksmuseum, among others.
APPROACH
Our approach is driven by curiosity and rooted in our interest in materiality and tactile experiences. We take on a limited number of projects at a time, which enables us to go deep into research, pore over archives, and turn over metaphorical rocks.
